How does Victor feel about Elizabeth and why does he feel this way towards her?

    While Victor was young his mother wanted a daughter and went to adopt one. When his parents had found and adopted Elizabeth, his mother told him she was a gift to him the day before. Victor was very young and took it as a literal gift to him. He thought Elizabeth was his and his alone. Although they call each other cousins, he loves her more than a sister.

  2. Elizabeth is Victor's adopted sister. They are "cousins" as portrayed in the story. But you (the reader) can tell, just my the words he uses to discribe her that she is much more than a family member to him. She is an object of affection, a present all his own. He is in love with her.

    How does Victor feel about Elizabeth and why does he feel this way towards her?

    He basically loves her due to the fact that she is a "gift". Elizabeth seems to be a "more than sister" to Victor. Elizabeth lives with Victor as a family during childhood. She's an orphan. However, beautiful and nice to Victor's eyes for an adopted sister.

  5. @Chad: Wow, me jealous. Never had a sister. Good answer btw.

    Victor feelings towards Elizabeth are passion and like. The reason why he likes her is because she is beautiful, of course. Elizabeth is a clam and concentrated. Victor likes the way she loves poetry and the wonderful, majestic scenes of nature and such. Also, he was curious on why he feels this way, but very opened to it.

  8. Well I think Victors Feelings for Elizabeth is kinda peculiar because they are cousins and thats not something that happens in our in this world today. He likes her because maybe Victors' mom told him to protect and to love Elizabeth so thats what he did. So he probably got too close to Elizabeth and they grew more fonder to eachother. Well thats what I think :)

    @ Angie: Yup. I totally agree with you like how you mentioned this... "She is an object of affection, a present all his own. He is in love with her." Nice job Angie -

  10. Elizabeth is a girl that was adopted by victors parents, but in the story they are cousins. And victor, the way he talks about her in the story obviously likes her more than a sister. I find this really weird. But, I think victor's affection for her would be any child"s/teenage boys. she is describe as pretty and what boy wouldn't fall for a pretty girl :)

    *sorry I know it sounds really wrong, incestuous but hey they aren't really related ! hahah

    @Lise
    hahaha it is something that happens today but no one really talks about it; i think your insight is spot on

  11. Elizabeth was adopted by Victor's parents, but as you read the book, it says they are cousins. Victor is falling for Elizabeth because she is really beautiful .

    Victor is obviously very much attracted to Elizabeth. The book does describe her as a pretty young woman so I can not see why he would not be. However, they are related by MARRIAGE, so it does seem a bit wrong. Maybe Victor thinks it is okay to like her just because they are family via marriage rather than blood. He did like her during their childhood, right? So it's rather a strong feeling that has remained since then and he is still trying to respond appropriately by holding in his feelings. I would say he is simply facing a small dilemma. Tis all.

    Victor is deeply in love with Elizabeth. One reason is because she is beautiful. The event that had a great impact on his feelings was her arrival to the Frankenstein home. His mother had said she was his gift but did not realize he would take this statement seriously. After this, he believed that Elizabeth was his love to keep and only his to have.

    I like your answer to this. It is very true and not some big complication.
